Freja, made of brass with antique finish. Find from Hagebyhöga in Östergötland, Viking Age. Height approx. 3 cm.
Circular pendant depicting a pregnant woman, partially enclosed by a ring. She stands with legs apart and hands clasped beneath her abdomen; the head and face are worn, but lines above the head may suggest a headdress. Her cloak is fastened at the neck with a disc-on-bow brooch, and a six-strand bead necklace hangs across her chest. The pendant is often interpreted as Freyja, goddess of fertility, childbirth, and a leader of the Valkyries. Found in a grave at Aska, Hagebyhöga parish, Östergötland.
