Small blue sugar bowl. After model from Finland, 18th century.
Description
Almost all blue glass from 18th-century Sweden-Finland was produced in the eastern part of the realm. The mineral pigment cobalt was often smuggled from Russia, as the blue color was both exclusive and expensive. Today, glassblowers use oxidized cobalt as an additive, which is more sustainable from a biodynamic perspective.
