Kymbo figure
Amulet ‘Kymbo figure’ crafted after an original found at Storgården in Kymbo parish, Västergötland, Sweden. Migration Period. The amulet has a height of approx. 45 mm.
The Kymbo figure is a small statuette, originally 3–4 cm tall, from the Iron Age, discovered in Kymbo, Västergötland in the 1920s. It depicts a naked, hanged man with a large gold neck ring and was likely used as an amulet.
The figure has been interpreted as Freyja with the necklace Brisingamen, but the most common interpretation is that it represents Odin, who hanged himself from the world tree Yggdrasil to gain wisdom. The neck ring is then believed to be the gold ornament Draupnir.
