Persian engraved beaker

Cylindrical beaker made of thick, colorless glass with a volume of approximately 40 cl. Its engraved decoration features pomegranates, pinecones, birds, and a so-called Tree of Life. This beaker is the only known intact find from an Islamic region discovered in Scandinavia. It is believed to have been made in present-day Iran or Iraq during the 9th century. The beaker was found in a grave in Birka (Bj 542), Adelsö parish, Uppland.
